The Fence - September 2003
I wanted to see the controverse "security-fence" for myself. So I joined a group of peace activists to visit different villages along the fence and there talked with the Palestinian residents. The similarity to border fences, for example like between Jordan and Israel, is pretty obvious. The Fence cuts an aisle right through olive orchards and fields. It separates villages from their wells and fields, students from their schools, etc. The gates shown on the pictures are being opened at the convenience of the responsible soldier instead of at the scheduled times and sometimes are closed for several days alltogether. A security-fence would have to run along the green line, but the development in Palestine will only deepen the hate and anger thousands of people, who only want to live and survive in peace. It does not vring peace.
